The Upper Fuy is one of Chile’s white water kayaking gems with its crystalline blue warm water and relatively easy to run rapids and waterfalls. A short 4 KM section full of boofs, moves, and spectacular drops within a magical basalt canyon. The Upper Fuy starts as Lago Neltume overflows into riverbed and ends prior to the Huilo Huilo park and Middle Fuy Canyons.

Dangers
High and low levels may be the biggest dangers. Levels too high are of extreme danger and can be terminal swim at Bird Sucker (sucks birds out of sky) below Las Leonas. There is a cave behind the last 15 foot waterfall with rescue access at regular flows. At regular optimal flows the run is safe with proper guiding and trained swift water rescue.
Instructor Tips & Challenges
Go with someone that knows the levels and lines. You can lap Las Leonas and paddle behind the veil at regular flows. Check out the Neltume port and have lunch at the market. DON’T paddle this section at higher flows without expert experience. Serious dangers from Las Leonas down with horrific high water flow pushing into terminal undercut eddy. Ask your guide to stop for a beer at the Ewok village tavern.
